This access road actually becomes Barton Springs Rd as it bends to the right. Drive past the 1st park entrance on the right. Keep going around the corner and past the 2nd entrance on the right. Turn right at the 3rd entrance. Stay left at the road split. Pass the parking lot entrance on the left. The road will dip down a short hill. You are now on a large narrow parking lot which serves as parking for Zilker Pool & Playscape. Drive to the end of this lot. The road will make a sharp right turn at the end. Stop and park here at the end of the lot. This is where we start. The trail access in right here. CAMP CRAFT ACCESS (Hill Of Life): North on 360, turn left on Scottish Woods Rd. Look for the street sign at the light that says West Lake High Drive. West Lake is to the right but Scottish Woods is the same road/light on the left. Take Scottish Woods. Drive to the end of the road and park on Scottish Woods. Do not park on Camp Craft Rd. You will be towed. The trail head is on Camp Craft Rd, 30 yards to the right of the Scottish Woods intersection. We do our Hill Repeats here and also some of our trail starts also. TWIN FALLS ACCESS: Mopac heading south, take the Cap of Texas Hwy exit, and stay on the access road. Gp strait through the light and continue on the access road until it makes a U-turn. Stop & park here. The entrance is on the right. The trail drops down to the greenbelt trail not far from Twin Falls. SPYGLASS ACCESS (Barton Skyway): South on MOPAC(loop1), pass the river and turn left on Barton Skyway. Drive to the end of the road and park. Greenbelt access is right there across from taco Deli 360 ACCESS: If you are heading South on MoPac, exit S. Capitol of Texas Hwy (Loop 360) exit. This is an exit to the left off of MoPac. Quickly move into the left hand lane. At the first light, take a Left into the business park. The park entrance is to the Left in this parking lot. You can park in this lot. If you are coming in from I-35 heading west on 71, look for the next light after 360. Make a right and then a left into the parking lot. SURFACE: The trail is approx 7.5 miles from Zilker to Scottish Woods. A 15 mile round trip. There are a few variations of side trails that allow us to get 20 miles or more. The trail is mostly flat. Some sections are rocky and some are smooth and fast. Scottish Woods features the Hill of Life. A tough rocky climb. All the other good climbs are on alternate route spin offs from the creek. NOTES: There is no drinking water available. There are water crossings on a seasonal basis. Comes and goes quickly. All starts are at Zilker unless specifically stated otherwise. |
