Description/Directions: JOE'S ROUTE FROM AUSTIN: West on 290 out of Austin. Pass Oak Hill & Dripping Springs to Henly (just a blip on the highway) Left in Henly on 165 to Blanco. 165 stops just a half mile short of 281 in Blanco. Turn left on Loop-163 and this will hit 281 in just 1 mile. Turn left on 281 heading south toward San Antonio. Right on 46 in Bulverde. In Bourne, 46 turns left, heads south for a mile, and then turns back right (west) again. Cross over I-10 as you leave Bourne, still heading west on 46. 46 dead ends at 16 where you make a right. Pass through Pipe Creek and Bandera. Turn left on 337 in Medina and right on 187 in Vanderpool. The park is on the left up a few miles. Enter and drive to the end and park there. The trail head starts here.
SURFACE: Very rugged with lots of big hills.
NOTES: Water crossings depend on the route and the season. There is no drinking water on the trail, but there is water in the park.
