Description/Directions:
East out of Austin on 71, through Bastrop. Pass Loop-150 (the 1st one) & also 95. After you have driven through Bastrop, turn left on Loop-105 (the 2nd one) a half mile later. The park entrance will be a half mile up on the right, within 50 feet of hwy-21. A sign there says Bastrop State Park. You enter the park on 1A. Drive through the ranger station. $3 entrance fee.
OVERLOOK ACCESS: After the ranger station, take the first left (remain on 1A). Pass the first quick right. Take the next right (still on 1A). A pond will be on your left. Take the next right(still on 1A). If you go left, you are heading to Buescher State Park. We are not going to Buescher today. The parking lot for the overlook is a quarter mile up on the right. Park here. Trail head access starts here. It is just across the road you drove in on. Why we start here instead of by the showers is because the trail(s) from the showers to here are VERY confusing and easy to lose runners new to this trail. Multiple splits, hard to follow, and very hilly.
SHOWER ACCESS: After the ranger station, take the first left (remain on 1A). Take the first quick right (leave 1A). Pass the swimming pool and park by the bathroom or playscape. The trail access is behind the guest lodges across from the showers. Yes the showers work and are free. That's why we start here.
SURFACE: The smoothest and easiest rolling hills, covered in pine needles and leaves. Very easy and fun.
NOTES: water at the showers only. No water crossings. Creeks are usually dry. |
