HCTR E-mail List Guidelines

The purpose of the HCTR e-mail list is to facilitate communication among club members. Lively, relevant discussions on trail running, racing, and club activities are encouraged. To date we have not experienced many of the problems that so often happen with email lists. Please read and follow these guidelines to help prevent such problems from occurring.

1. Please keep the subjects of messages relevant to trail running or related subjects.

2. Please think carefully before posting - is what you have to say interesting enough to be read by all the club members? “Me too” messages are more appropriately sent to just the original sender rather than to the entire list. Click on "reply" in your e-mail program to send to just the original sender. If you want to post to the entire list, just click "reply all" - it will go to the whole list.

3. No anonymous posts. Please include your name in each message you send to the list.

4. Please use a subject header that is descriptive of the message you're writing. If you are in Digest mode and reply to the digest, change the subject header to that of the post to which you are replying.

5. Please do not 'SHOUT' (type an entire message in all capital letters). It makes messages hard to read and is considered rude.

6. Items for sale may be posted to the list under the following guidelines:
Include "For Sale" along with name of the item in the e-mail subject line.
Post only items that relate to running, adventure racing, or multi-sports.
Post the ad only once and keep the follow-up e-mails between seller and buyer and not on the list.

7. Solicitation is ONLY permissible for the direct benefit of active members in support of charitable or non-profit programs and should be related to running or other similar athletic endeavors. Soliciting for non-members or for profit causes is unacceptable.

8. Flaming, direct personal attacks, against other members is not allowed. If you must criticize someone, do it via private email.

9. The HCTR board reserves the right to temporarily or permanently remove members from the list who continue to ignore these guidelines.
