Years Running: Since 1974
Years Running Trails: Since 2001 (but I started running in the woods when I was 6)
Why did I start Running Trails?: After running my first marathon in 2001, Debra Saleny talked about trail running at Austin Fit. I got on Joe Prusaitis’s email list and found out about Rocky Hill Ranch. I ran the 25K and have been hooked on trails ever since. It makes me feel like a 10 year old kid again running thought the woods and playing. And it is much easier on my old body than pavement!
Favorite Trail Shoes: Montrail Hardrock and New Balance 907s. The discontinued Montrail Masai were probably my favorite shoes ever
Favorite Running Trails: Bandera (HCSNA), Guadalupe Mts., Barton Creek Wilderness Park (Greenbelt), Bastrop State Park
Favorite Trail Running Foods/Beverages: Pizza and Coke, if I can get it. Otherwise, it’s Mojo bars, Cola Cliff Shot Blocks and water!
Likes/Dislikes about Trail Running: There is nothing not to like. What I love is the sheer joy of being outside on the trail and being one with Nature….sometimes even merging skin with dirt!
Favorite Trail/Ultra Races: Bandera 100k.
How do I Train?: Back-to-back runs on the weekends and one day during the week for speed. Mostly I just like to do what feels like fun and that will usually get me enough miles to finish whatever I am attempting.
Personal Running Goals: To enjoy it for the rest of my life. I don’t care that much about races. I just enjoy all the training!
Fantasy Running Goal: Finish a 100 miler when I’m 100 years old…….well maybe a 100K
Favorite Running Quote: Not sure about my favorite, but the most recent one that I heard that I like is from Guarav: “Run Till It’s Fun!”
